CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
No cost to participate. Earn $400 when your painting sells.
OVERVIEW
Submit a JPEG of your digital artwork. We'll transform it into a one-of-a-kind PillWork™ painting and offer it for sale in our online gallery. When your painting sells, you will receive $400. No entry fee. No risk.
WHICH CAME FIRST? THE GALLERY OR THE PAINTING?
We went with the gallery first. Now we need your skills to help us fill our virtual walls with compelling art.
PillWorks™ is selecting up to 15 digital artworks for the founding collection of our gallery. We'll transform each chosen JPEG into a 24 × 24-inch acrylic painting, then promote it, and offer it for sale. You supply the image. We cover everything else.
Submission period ends November 20, 2026.

YOUR IMAGE, PAINTED
Each selection becomes a unique, numbered 24 × 24-inch PillWork edition of one.
$400 TO YOU WHEN IT SELLS
Each painting is priced at $3,600. When it sells, you receive $400.

- Cross your fingers. If you're selected, we'll ask you to sign our Artist Agreement and approve a digital preview before we paint. The Agreement is provided below.
- See it painted. We paint your PillWork, credit you by name and add it to our gallery. When it sells, we will mark it "Sold" and you receive $400.

How to Submit
EMAIL YOUR ENTRY TO: support@pillworks.art
Please include:
- One attached JPEG file no larger than 20 Mb. If you enter more than one JPEG, send each one in its own email. We'll reply to confirm we received your entry.
- Your name, email address, and country of residence.
- This important statement, copied into your email:
"I have read the PillWorks Open Call submission terms. I confirm that I created the artwork I am submitting, or otherwise own or control all rights needed to submit it and to authorize PillWorks to paint, display, and sell it under these terms, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights."
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION
We'll select up to 15 artworks based on artistic quality, how well each suits our painting process, and how the works fit together as a collection. More than one work by the same artist may be selected.
Once selection is completed, we'll email every entrant with the results. Selected artists must respond within 14 days, or we may offer their place to another artist. Selection becomes final after the artist signs the artist agreement and approves the production preview. Submitting does not guarantee selection.
PREVIEW AND PRODUCTION
Our process interprets your artwork with a limited paint palette and individually placed dots. Colors, fine detail, and surface will differ from your digital original.
Before we paint, you'll receive a digital preview to approve. One round of reasonable adjustments is included, within the limits of the process. If we can't agree on a preview, either of us may end the collaboration before production, at no cost.
We'll make one 24 × 24-inch acrylic painting on a wood box panel from each selected artwork. Paintings will be produced and added to the gallery as they're completed. The order by which the paintings are produced, and the timing of the addition to the gallery, is up to our discretion.
SALES AND ARTIST PAYMENT
Each painting is offered at a fixed price of $3,600, plus any sales tax and shipping.
If the painting sells, you receive a one-time payment of $400. PillWorks covers all production, promotion, and sales costs, and no associated costs are deducted from your payment.
We'll pay you within 30 days after we receive full payment from the buyer and the return period has ended. Canceled, refunded or incomplete sales don't qualify.
You'll need to provide the payment and tax information required to pay you. You're responsible for any taxes on your earnings.
Sales aren't guaranteed. If the painting doesn't sell, no payment is due.
COPYRIGHT, PERMISSIONS, AND OWNERSHIP
You keep the copyright to your original digital artwork. You may continue to display, license, and sell it, including as digital files or prints.
Participating artists permit PillWorks to adapt the artwork for painting, to make and sell one physical painting one time, and to use photos or videos of the painting for display and promotion in perpetuity.
Promotion may include, but is not limited to pillwork.art, social media, email, advertising, and exhibitions. Images may stay in our gallery and archive indefinitely, including with a "Sold" label after the painting sells.
We'll credit you whenever we use an image of your PillWork for any purpose.
OWNERSHIP AND UNSOLD PAINTINGS
PillWorks owns the physical painting until it sells. Owning the painting doesn't transfer copyright in your underlying artwork.
Unsold paintings may remain for sale indefinitely, and may be exhibited or sold through partners on the same payment terms.
Once production begins, you can't require us to deliver, destroy or withdraw the painting unless we've agreed to that in writing.
PRIVACY AND UNSELECTED WORKS
Submissions that aren't selected stay private. We won't paint, publish or promote them without your separate permission.
We use your files and contact details only to run the open call and evaluate entries.
Submitting doesn't sign you up for marketing emails.
CANCELLATION AND THE ARTIST AGREEMENT
PillWorks may cancel the open call before any artist agreements are signed. If we do, submitted artwork won't be produced or used for promotion.
After you sign an artist agreement, cancellation and any continued use of approved materials are governed by that agreement.
Submitting means you accept these terms, but it doesn't grant production or promotional rights. Those come only from the artist agreement, which selected artists sign before production or any public use of their artwork.
The Agreement is provided below.

PillWorks Artist Agreement
This agreement explains how we’ll work together to create, promote, and sell a PillWork™ based on your artwork. Our aim is simple: respect your creative work, make a distinctive painting, and be clear about everyone’s responsibilities.
This is a legally binding agreement between:
PillWorks
Business address: 1070 Commercial St, San Carlos, CA 94070
Contact: support@pillworks.art
and
Artist’s legal name: ______________________________
Artist’s address: ______________________________
Artist’s email: ______________________________
Public artist credit: ______________________________
Artwork title: ______________________________
Selected file name: ______________________________
Artwork reference: [Attach a thumbnail or identify the selected image.]
This agreement covers only the artwork identified above. “You” means the artist, and “we” means PillWorks.
1. Our Collaboration
You give PillWorks permission to interpret your selected digital artwork as one 24 × 24-inch acrylic painting on a cradled wood panel.
We will cover the costs of preparing, producing, promoting, and selling the painting. You will not be charged an entry fee, production fee, or marketing fee.
We will offer the painting for US$3,600, excluding applicable sales tax and shipping. If it sells, you will receive US$400 under the payment terms below.
We cannot guarantee that the painting will sell.
2. Your Artwork and Rights
You confirm that you are at least 18 years old and own or control the permissions necessary to enter this agreement.
Your submission must not infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity rights, or other rights. If the artwork includes contributions or materials belonging to others, you confirm that you have the necessary permissions for the uses described here.
You will tell us how the artwork was created, including any use of AI-generated material, stock imagery, or collaborators. We accept different creative techniques, but acceptance does not remove the need for appropriate permissions.
If you represent collaborators or other rights holders, you confirm that you are authorized to grant these permissions and receive payment on their behalf. The total artist payment remains US$400 per painting sold.
3. You Keep Your Copyright
You retain any copyright and other rights you hold in your original artwork. This agreement does not transfer them to PillWorks.
You remain free to display, license, and sell your original artwork, including as digital files or prints, and to enter other collaborations.
You grant PillWorks a nonexclusive, worldwide license to:
- Prepare the artwork for our painting process and create a digital production preview.
- Produce one completed physical painting based on the approved preview.
- Exhibit, promote, offer for sale, and sell that painting.
- Photograph and film the painting and its production.
- Use the approved preview and images or videos of the painting to promote the painting, this collaboration, and the PillWorks process and business.
We may use service providers and gallery or sales partners to carry out these activities. Their permission to use your artwork is limited to helping us perform this agreement.
We may not sell prints, merchandise, digital downloads, or additional paintings based on your artwork without a separate written agreement with you.
4. Your Preview and Approval
Our process uses 256 paint colors and individually placed dots. The finished painting will interpret your artwork rather than reproduce every screen color or detail exactly.
Before painting begins, we will send you a digital preview for approval by email. One round of reasonable adjustments is included, within the capabilities of our process.
We will not begin painting without your written approval. Silence does not count as approval.
If we cannot agree on a preview, either of us may end the collaboration before painting begins, without a fee or payment obligation.
Once you approve the preview, you accept the color and detail changes shown in it and the normal variations associated with physical paint. Material changes to the approved composition require your further approval.
5. Production and the Physical Painting
We will produce one completed painting for sale. No additional completed copies will be offered or retained as editions without a separate written agreement.
The painting will be numbered and labeled with your agreed artist credit.
We determine the production order and gallery release date and will keep you informed of significant delays.
If painting has not begun within six months after both parties sign, you may end this agreement by email. We may agree in writing to extend that period.
PillWorks owns the physical painting until it is sold. The buyer then owns the physical painting, without acquiring your underlying copyright through that purchase.
6. Promotion and Artist Credit
We will credit you using the public artist credit listed above whenever we publish your artwork or an image of the painting.
You permit us to use that credit, the artwork title, and any biography or artist links you supply for the collaboration.
Promotional channels may include pillworks.art, social media, email, advertising, press materials, exhibitions, and sales-partner listings.
We may resize or crop images for presentation, provided we do not misleadingly alter or misrepresent your work.
Permission for these promotional and archival uses continues indefinitely, including after the painting sells. For example, we may keep the painting in our online gallery with a “Sold” label.
If we miss or misstate a credit, please contact us. We will correct materials we control promptly and request corrections from partners where reasonably possible.
7. Sale and Your Payment
The painting’s price is US$3,600, plus applicable sales tax and shipping. We will not discount that price without your written agreement.
If the painting sells, we will pay you a one-time amount of US$400. We will not deduct production, promotion, gallery commissions, payment-processing charges, or other selling expenses from that amount.
We will email you when a sale is completed and issue payment within 30 days after:
- The buyer’s payment has been received in full and cleared; and
- The return period disclosed for that sale has expired, with no return or payment dispute pending.
Canceled, refunded, or incomplete sales do not qualify for payment. If a returned painting later sells successfully, the same US$400 payment applies to that completed sale.
You must provide the information reasonably needed to issue payment and any required tax reporting. If missing information delays payment, we will pay within 30 days after receiving it, provided the sale otherwise qualifies.
Payment will be in U.S. dollars. We will cover our payment-sending fees; currency conversion or receiving-bank charges may affect the amount you receive in another currency.
You are responsible for taxes applicable to your earnings. If withholding is legally required, we will notify you and provide the applicable record.
The US$400 payment is the total compensation for the collaboration and permissions in this agreement. No payment is due unless the painting sells.
8. Unsold Paintings
Unsold paintings may remain available for sale indefinitely. We may exhibit or offer them through our own gallery or sales partners under the same price and artist-payment terms.
Once painting begins, you may not require us to deliver the painting to you, destroy it, or withdraw it from sale unless we agree in writing. This does not limit your ability to address a material breach of this agreement.
We will not give away an unsold painting or use it to fulfill an unpaid donation without your written agreement.
9. Cancellation and Unexpected Problems
Before painting begins, either party may end the collaboration by email. Neither party will owe the other a cancellation fee.
If the collaboration ends before production, we will not publicly use the artwork and will remove any promotional materials we control that feature it. We may retain a private copy of the agreement and related correspondence for our records.
After painting begins, cancellation requires mutual written agreement, except where a party materially breaches this agreement.
If a material breach occurs, the other party must describe the problem by email and allow 30 days to resolve it before ending the agreement. If the problem cannot reasonably be resolved within that period, the parties may agree to more time. This process does not prevent either party from seeking urgent relief when necessary.
If a credible rights complaint arises, we may pause production, promotion, or sales while we discuss and investigate it with you.
If production becomes impossible or the painting is lost or damaged, we will notify you and discuss next steps. Producing a replacement requires your written approval, and no more than one completed painting may be available for sale under this agreement.
Ending this agreement does not erase a payment already owed for a completed sale. If a completed painting exists, its treatment and any continuing promotional use will be addressed in writing, subject to any rights and remedies available under law.
10. Communication and Privacy
We will use your contact, payment, and tax information to administer this collaboration and meet legal obligations. We will not publish your private address, payment information, or tax details.
Participation does not subscribe you to marketing emails.
Please keep your contact information current. Notices and approvals under this agreement may be sent to the email addresses listed above.
11. Our Agreement
This document and any attached artwork reference contain our complete agreement for this selected work. If the open-call webpage differs from this signed agreement, this agreement controls.
Changes must be agreed to in writing by both parties. Routine approvals and scheduling arrangements may be confirmed by email.
California law governs this agreement, without limiting protections that applicable law does not allow either party to waive.
If a disagreement arises, we will first try to resolve it through a good-faith conversation. This does not prevent either party from using available legal remedies.
Electronic signatures and signed copies have the same intended effect as paper signatures. The agreement takes effect when both parties have signed.
