ADD A NEW DIMENSION TO YOUR WORK
You create your artwork on a screen. PillWorks™ gives it physical form using thousands of carefully chosen and placed acrylic dots. Send us your JPEG, and we will transform it into a beautiful painting with the richness, texture, and physical presence of paint.
We also help bring that work to market. Through our online gallery, we promote and sell PillWorks created in collaboration with artists, providing them with meaningful financial compensation.
And we keep experimenting—refining our software, hardware and painting techniques to enable new creative possibilities.
256 CUSTOM-MIXED COLORS
Our process starts with paint. We designed a unique palette of 256 blended acrylic colors, then electronically scanned each one to measure its RGB values. We used those values to build our proprietary Photoshop color palette, linking the colors in a digital file to the corresponding paints in our studio.
Using advanced dithering algorithms, we convert your file into an indexed image constrained to the colors in the palette. Our software then isolates every color and generates G-code toolpaths. The PillWorks painting machine, designed and built in-house, follows those paths to place every dot in precisely the right place.
Skilled humans oversee and execute the production process. The machine places the paint one dot at a time, one color at a time. (A 24-inch by 24-inch painting takes about 40 hours to complete.) From a distance, the dots resolve into the image. Move closer, and the individual dimensional paint dots are revealed.

We are professionals with deep experience in digital illustration and design. We’ve created countless images for screens and high-resolution prints. In many cases, a high resolution print is the right solution. But often we long for the emotional impact we feel when viewing a painting hung on a wall.
After many years of refining the technology we needed to get the results we wanted, we’re opening our studio to new collaborations with artists, patrons, collectors, and galleries ready to explore this exciting new medium.
